Every mod is a risk at the end of the day, its up to you if you wish to do it. HIDs unfortunately affect other road users unlike most other things (except maybe neons and led washer jets - both illegal)

Remember, just because something goes through an MOT doesnt mean its legal

whilst I agree that HID's are made by Satan and should be outlawed that statement really doesn't make sense

Surely the idea of an MOT should be to ensure the car is in a roadworthy AND legal condition.  To me, roadworthy should mean its legal to drive on the road

What a fecked up system we have  :undecided:

ay possibly although I'm sure I saw in another thread guidelines or whatnot about the MOT tester possibly allowing HID's through as long as the beam pattern is correct and level  :undecided:

Nope, the MOT doesnt test what isnt there i.e. headlight washers and self levelers. You cant fail for something you dont have other than essential legal parts (brake lights etc)

A good example is the spare tyre. If you have a bald one in your boot you will fail, if you take the test without it in you will pass.

Its merely a test to show the car meets the legal minimum to be on the road.

well will be damned no spare wheel and you pass, well i guess no spare is better than a bald one.

If someone with dodgy HID lamps crashed into me it'd be the first thing I'd point out to Mr Plod.

If you want your insurance to be valid basically let em know about EVERY mod you do, at the end of the day they will void your insurance if you dont tell them about a mod, eg, exhaust, airfilter etc etc.
