Also i've find a private sale 1.8T, 02 plate with 80k miles for £2895 but it is a Cat D insurance loss. Does anyone have any experience or advice on buying cars involved in insurance loss claims?

My octavia vrs is now on 136,000 miles and is still going strong. Aslong as it has FSH etc then that millage isnt unacceptable. Would risk buying a insurance write off vehicle myself.

Would do but I'm looking for a standard one, I feel less can go wrong with one's that ain't bin modified. Plus there is the insurance side of things.

You didn't state that in your post

But the one you linked too I wouldn't pay that much for such a high mileage car

I'm always reluctant to buy a high mileage car but wasn't sure if it was me being silly lol! In theory if the car has bin looked after and serviced regularly then the mileage shouldn't mean much, if it hasn't then there could be a lot to go wrong I spose. I'm going to ring my insurance on Monday and see if they will insure me on a modified car. Might have to go down that route cos there really ain't much about at the mo :(. Plus it does look like a very fine example!

mine car is similar age to the one in the autotrader link, I paid £2800 for it from autotrader in april with 53k and fsh, so keep looking. For that money you can do alot better.

How far are you prepared to travel? If need be, increase the distance to 200 miles & make a day of it.
