I would think most of the staff cars are pre-ordered some time before launch. The cars then go to in house auctions after a few months (when VW can claim the VAT back) where they are sold to dealers.
But it's an interesting thought and insight as to whats parked up in MK HQ.
My personal view is that VW are playing clever with the uncertain world market and are deliberately under producing cars so as they don't have any danger of ending up like GM and can keep the unions happy with no redundancies in the pipeline.
Plus as mere customers we don't really know how many of their suppiers went under in the last 12 months which would give them a huge headache. In the meantime VW have the enviable position of being able to charge what they like for what ever they like.
