my wheels are 8 inch at the back but i think i've got a different offset, would have to check as i took them off yesterday for winter. but my car is seriously low on coilovers and i only get minimal rubbing, except when i've got others in my car then it rubs like hell, all the more reason to not give people a lift!!!
if i was you i'd keep the rims, get the arches rolled or maybe even pulled out to give the clearance. people have put wider rims on all sorts of cars and while you would have to spend the money on arch work, just look at the response you've got from showing off those wheels!
i know bbs have been done to death but i love mine and every time people see my car they always tell me how sweet my rims look, which makes the bit of rubbing all worth while.
if making cars look good was straightforward every twit would have one so by doing the extra hard work you get more recognition, especially in nthe wonderful world of vw's!!!
just think you've got the whole winter to get it sorted for shows next year good luck mate
