Hi, Snoopy  -  my eldest son and wife (two separate people!) want me to get black  -  neither like white (I'm only getting the winter pack for them as they like the seat warmers)  -  the p black and c white are going to be everywhere and have the cleanliness problem  -  I like carbon grey (more than the steel gray) (a bit different) but maybe a bit dull though I guess easier to keep clean than white and black)  -  I like red, don't have your problem with it but it might also be a bit 'flat'  -  silver is everywhere on the road on many cars  -  leaves the blues  -  no disrespect but I prefer the blue graphite  -  just a preference thing  -  so, by a process of elimination....

and what's your take on leather....?

I too have been thinking long and hard about colour for my GTI or R.

I used to own a Windsor Blue VR6 before I became a BMW and later an Audi fan. Now i find myself coming back to VW and I don't like either Shadow Blue or Graphite Blue. I looked at Rising Blue, but feel that this isn't quite right either.

I am coming to the conclusion that only 3 colours will really stand the test of time - Black, Carbon Black and United Grey.
Golf R - almost on order - 5-door, DSG, Rising Blue, leather, 19" alloys, RNS510 with Dynaudio, ACC, Sunroof, Parking camera and sensors, luxury pack and cruise control.

you and I think alike, Snoopy  -  I agree with you on the leather  -  it'll be cloth for me  -  I also think the cloth seats are more supportive for the driver's back. I think I'd regret the leather after a while. I have heard it said that the cloth clashes with colours except for white, black, red and silver  -  I'd have thought it'd be ok with the blues...??

black hard to keep clean and too many around  -  what's carbon black? I like carbon grey but might be a bit lifeless  - united grey, what's that? I think, via process of elimination....graphite blue  -  not too dark/dull, not too flashy  -  might be just right...

United grey is the colour to have if you don't want to be cleaning your car regularly. I had a car in this shade of grey and it never looked as dirty as other colours. Blue graphite also hides the dirt quite well.

The red check interior doesn't clash with any of the GTI colours - I checked with my wife

Steel grey and United grey are very similar. This is the car I had which always looked clean:

it's a good looking gray  -  I just think I prefer the darker, heavier carbon gray  -  but I'm tempted to go for the blue graphite  -  kind of has the gray but the blue gives it a bit of life, a bit of a lift

^ Know what you meen,
It will also be a rarer colour looking at other places like Germany were theres loads of in order of amount  Black, white, carbon, red for sale.
Looking at the mk5 too its not a common colour on the GTI either.
Carbon of cause is unique to the GTI and GTD but there are a few about.

Alot of people try and talk others out of blues especially dealerships but its nice to be different and not follow the crowd.
Dealerships and people try to talk buyers out of buying the blues saying there 'not GTI colours' this i always find so funny  as the most sort after colour for the mk1 Golf GTI is Helios Blue! ...a colour very similar to graphite blue infact

Colours a personal thing go with what you and your family like not what others do is my recomendation.

No offense to anyone on here who owns a graphite blue, but James honestly don't go for that colour if I were you and you really want black I'd go for the carbon grey it is well nice and looks smart with the jacara cloth.

I would have gone for carbon grey if I hadn't decided on the black.  There is a grey one down the road from here and it is really really smart looking.  Never looks as dirty as mine.
