Not a recommendation for a road as such, but on Friday night I drove home from Glasgow via the A721.  I love this car.

Since I had to drive that road daily to work, some berk has installed "traffic calming" at Kilncadzow.  Strips across the road that bump and judder.  They annoy the hell out of me.  I switched to "Comfort" on the ACC and they just went away.

There's a stretch of twisties between Newbiggin and Elsrickle.  I just tapped the DSG paddles to keep the car in the gear I wanted between the bends, and let it revert to auto once through them.  Beats the pants off cornering with one hand and changing gear with the other.

I love this car.

Rolfe.

I have spent a few hours today driving home to Leeds from Alston (which is in the middle of nowhere in the North Pennines on the road from Hexham to Penrith). I came the scenic way through Teesdale and the Dales. Very bleak. BUT.... lots of twisty roads. Proper GTi country.
Besides all the obvious stuff I now understand why I bought this car. Despite the wet conditions it was an awesome drive in the GTi. Hardly any traffic, beautiful scenery and a car in its element.
And I also now understand why I don't neccessarily need more than 210 bhp. 250 or more wouldn't have made any difference on this drive, it was all about handling and composure.
Anyone else got any favourite driving roads?

try some of the roads from shadwell through wike and towards harrogate rd. Some good ones as you head out towards otley and ilkley also

Sorry - pressed "post" before cowriting my comments

I know those roads really well R32 as I'm from North Leeds. Used to be up and down them a lot on my push bike as a kid. Not quite the same as a GTi but I know where you're coming from.

All the posts prove that there's still fun to be had these days despite the volume of traffic. You just need to know where to look. And to have as good a car as we do of course!!!!

Happy with carbon grey? Still looks ok when a bit dirty? I'm going for pearlescent black but I do like carbon grey? Got cloth? If so, do the grey and cloth colours live well together or a bit of a clash?

It's Sharpie you know.

Reading through all the posts I did wonder if it was a wind up.  Assumed it was you however.

Both the EVO Triangle in Wales  and the Cat and Fiddle run(Highest road death per mile ) in Cheshire are quite challenging to drive!
I also like the A7 from Carlisle to Edinburgh.
Shame a lot of nice roads are now litter with cameras which not only spoil the driving but also the scenery !

Same here mate, N Leeds is my local area, suprised I havent seen you driving about! If you used to be round there on your bike then your probably quite familiar witht bike trails at the bottom end of roundhay park, and of course bluebell woods

Got to say one of my favourite drives was from Leeds up to Edinburgh... fantastic roads!!
