Go with what you want not what others think you should have.
Personally I wouldn't worry about re sale. Trade in value is the same regardless what colour you have unless it was a one of a limited run of 100 or something similar.
Any silver car I have had has always been the best to look clean. I could go months in between washes and it would still look relatively clean. But it was boring. It didn't stand out. Every other BMW or Merc is silver.

thats a good spec you've went for, i agree about the chrome strip though, would seem a wee bit pointless imo.

I don't have the GTI. Its the GT and it's below
It does take a bit of work to keep clean but looks fantastic when it's clean.

Probably not much to choose between black and white in terms of looking clean, or not - I think black is more me at 43 yes old

you'll never have a problem with resale of a gti as long as it's been relatively well looked after regardless of what colour, metallic or otherwise, i've gone for steel grey as i currently have it on a mkv and feel it's good all round, ie not too dark that it looks mucky after a few days and if it's been washed and waxed you can tell as well. i personally think red is a colour that needs to be cared for pretty well or will look shabby after a while. white looks amazing on the gti and my brother has a white scirocco that hides the dirt a lot better than you would think. if you have no intention of caring for the paint like a majority on here then (however boring) silver is the way to go.
Again this is just MY opinion and as p3asa says go with what you like and i would'nt worry about selling it on cos you'll have no worries especially as they're so in demand!

James
Sounds perfect what a great spec. Don't worry about black it looks fine dirty mine is deep black pearl and with all the crap weather we've been having is filthy, but it looks fine so all this b******s about polishing and waxing is just to put the frightners on you.
Enjoy your car mate when you collect. By the way what is the tourist pack? and did you get a good deal?

if having a dirty car is no problem then it really doesn't matter what colour he has, black, grey, white or red, however the fact is black is a difficult colour to keep CLEAN. if he doesn't want to keep it clean thats his choice.
