UNEVEN WEAR ON TIRES

i seem to have very worn tires on the outer 1/4 of my front tires. the middle of the tires looks to still have good tread but nearly bare on the outside areas. iv had to replace my tires about 3 times in 3 years for the same reason. i have avon zz3 225/40/zr18,are these just fast wearing tires.....or are they worn on the outsides because the tires are quite wide and flat and when i go round corner the weight goes onto the outside of the wheels wearing it more.....? im assuming theyve been tracked and balanced every time iv replaced the tires.....just seems to be pricey aving to replace every year! thanks for any help.x

also get your car in for 4 wheel alignment - could be the front camber is out

as Rhyso said get the wheel allignment checked as if its out then this could be a cause of the tyre wear most places with check for free and only charge if they do any adjustments for you

also get your car in for 4 wheel alignment - could be the front camber is out 

As far as i am aware u can't do 4 wheel alignment on a mk IV..only the front wheels can be adjusted

I would defo have the tracking checked ..

Yeah can indeed have 4 wheel alignment done but yes only the front wheels can be adjusted.

I said 4 wheel alignment as to me its different from tracking.  Tracking only checks the wheels are pointing straight line.  That's the way I've always understood it to be

When I had the 4 wheel alignment done they basically checked the whole lot, camber, toe and tracking.

As you have both said most will onyl be able to get the front wheel aligned with the tracking and as i found with my camber an toe beign way out = a sh!t feeling ride

the only solution was to get some rear adjustable tie arms which have sorted out my issues with the camber, at least now when i have it checked again if anyhtign has gone back out it can be sorted fairly easy

can you get them for 2WD Golfs though    Your rear suspension setup Stink is very different from us 2WD's drive boys
