Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) or as it's called in the UK Automatic Distance Control (ADC) uses radar to maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front, giving audible warning and automatically applying the brakes.

So in the top of the range Golf you don't get it, yet on standard Scandinavian cars they get it?  :lipsrsealed:

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Hmmm, one time in 2004, I could have done with that.

Blue-pencilled b!tch in the car ahead faked an injury for insurance compensation, too.  Even the cop who attended knew she was malingering.

Sounds like the sort of safety feature that should be standard.  Is there any reason apart from cost why anybody wouldn't want it?

Rolfe.

I had ACC on a VW Phaeton and loved it. After about a month getting used to it I found I couldn't live without it so it's a shame it's not an option on the GTI. It involves using a radar-like sensor behind the radiator grill (or, in the case of the Phaeton, buried in the front bumper) which makes for an expensive repair if you have a front end shunt.

You can see Mercedes S Class or Volvo S80/V70's with them by spotting the dark coloured sensor behind the radiator grille.
