newbi wants guidance
« on: 14 November 2009, 19:23 »
Hi all

As you will guess Im new to this site and vw golf's.

Ive always been into the vw range Ive owned a number of campers ranging from bay's, t25's, t4's and a T5 at late.

Thing is Ive just taken ownership of a vw golf 1.8T GTi on a 2000 w plate, it was too cheap to pass on

it's got 150,000 on the clock but I knew its last owner and it's got full VWSH upto 147,000!!

Plans: I want to tune the car and modify it to use as a runabout but with trackday fun in mind mainly

So any help with tuning where to go and how much power is possible? reliability issus etc please let me know

Cheers Ant

welcome

Your project all depends on how much money you're willing to throw in.  Easiest and cheapest first mod is of course stripping it of all the unwanted stuff inside - seats, door cards, carpet, head lining etc.  Next best mod will be chassis based...so coilovers and anti roll bars.  Engine wise making the engine breath better with air filter and stainless exhaust and a remap will see at least 200bhp depending on what BHP engine varient yours is now.  Beyond that you can go wild with roll cages, bigger turbos, cams, head work.

Mines the 150BHP model

I'm with you on the stripping out of the car, plan to fit race seats and a cage.

Does anyone do a bolt in cage for the car?

Plan to do brakes, suspension, anti rollbars, powerflex bushes etc.

Engine start with exhaust, air filter, front mount inter cooler, ecu chip then maybe turbo? cams etc

Anyone recomend the best kit out there? price im playing with is about 4k for project.

Wouldn't be fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?
