I test drove an R32 at a dealers (more for the laugh than anything as they rarely come up for sale here) and was hooked instantly. My next car after the 1.4 mk5 will be an R32 mk5

Best golf ever made
Agreed, the subtle little burble when you set off in town, the comfort of the leather interior, the smootheness of the engine and the ROAR when you give it some, it was fantastic! I couldn't get over how unique the engine sounded. Little burble taking off from the lights, nothing in your face just nice and mean, quiet as a mouse around town and the sound on the motorway
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

....

I've had my Mk5 GTI for over 4 years and done 76,000 miles and enjoyed every single mile. I've tested the Scirocco, the Mk6 GTI, driven and/or borrowed various other performance cars such as the new Evo X, had the latest Audi S4 Avant supercharged with all the extras for a week, but every time I get back in my albeit much modified Mk5 GTI I've yet to be disappointed.

Why change? If it works, don't mend it!

Same for me i still view it as more of a face lift rarther than a ''new'' model. And those rear lights  just don't do anything for me,one passed me yesterday when i was out walking & they just don't look right, worse when on.
