Definitive New GTI delivery checklist
« on: 03 November 2009, 08:37 »
I have gleaned these from various other posts to make one new clean list. Certainly will help clear my head from that fuzzy excitement when I take delivery which will be very soon.

Please add any more that you can think of :

Checklist :

Cover plates in the front wheel arches been fitted

Wheel nut covers

Wheel centre badges

Locking wheel bolt key and tools in the boot

Ipod & usb leads

Check reg document has correct numbers of the car on chassis etc. All the options are there and working.

Then usual, paint quality, dents, marks, colour difference, wheel marks, interior marks, panel gaps.

Make sure under rear of the car is fine as its not unknown due to the 55psi storage pressure(check tyre presures too) for it to slide and fall off the transporter.

Check the oil and water and not left it at shipping levels etc etc.

Ask for a copy of the PDI and work your own way through it.

Full Spacesaver Sparewheel in boot - (UK Spec.)

Check the condition of all the bodywork, wheels and interior, fog lights for stone chips (if its got cosmetic damage its going to be down to you once you drive away).

Marks on wheels from lashing ratchet strap from the transporter lorry.

Look very carefully for any small dents or chips. Crouch low and look along the sides of the vehicle and all around for anything out of the ordinary. If the car is outside and it has been raining tell the dealer you will be inspecting the car as soon as it is dry as you wouldn't see anything small if wet.

Check panel alignment

Check the fit of the doors (front especially) up at the top of the window towards the rear.

Have a good look at the seats and the fit of all the trim inside.

Check the transport blocks have been removed from the suspension springs

Headlight settings are on UK setting (ie headlights are not always on with ignition)

Full Alarm and Immobiliser (check by locking someone in the car, keep still for a minute, and then move arms around) (Import only)

English Manuals in leatherbound GTi holder (UK Spec)

Make sure all other documents are in the vehicle wallet.

Radio security code has been inputted and you have the number etc

Make sure there are no stray rags/cloths in the engine compartment.

Make sure they have filled in and stamped the PDI part of the service book

Bottle opener in the centre compartment (in between gear stick and armrest), dealers like to keep these.

Smoking Pack/Non smoking pack (which ever you ordered)

Check VIN numbers match between the car and documentation

Make sure you are set up for the service regime you want (Longlife or time & distance)

If there is no top up oil in a little bag in the boot ask for some

Check the bolt caps have been inserted in the holes on the wheels

Drop the windows right down, and then put them back up on auto (so push/pull knob the double click and don't hold it).  Make sure the windows don't drop when they're about an inch from shut.

Key adapter for locking wheel nuts (should be in the boot, with the spare wheel)

Two keys with remote locking functions, plus plastic key tag - with serial number, for ordering replacement key if necessary

Go for blast and enjoy !

Check for swirl marks!, mine was covered in them and didnt notice them till about a week later in the sunshine.

Couldn't get the dealer to do anything about it as i didn't notice them till a week after delivery.

Getting the paint work corrected tomorrow. Costing £200! but did get him down from his estimate of between £290-£340 so it does pay to check on delivery of the car.

Don't forget to take your original order slip (when they took your deposit) with your options list to confirm they're all fitted if you've gone a little mad with the options list!

The paint swirls and the dealer not correcting is a little odd, would have thought there could be a legal recourse \ defective goods (after all you've just spent £23,000+ on a car so....

In the past I had a very poor experience with a localish Audi dealer who serviced my old A4 and when I got the car back the paint on the front bumber looked to have been jet washed off on the drivers side corner! They said it was like that due to a poor repair job in the past (it was original and had never been fixed!!!!!) Wen't to town on them \ trading standards \ started to go down the legal route etc. At that stage the dealer ended up fixing it as a good will gesture under the paint warranty. Never went back since.

Regarding the paint swirls the dealer said with it being over a week down the line that i would have probably done them when ive washed it and with signing for it on collection that everything was ok they couldn't or wouldn't do anything about them.

If i'd have checked properly on delivery i wouldn't have this problem

Just whats this topic's all about (checking you car on delivery/collection!)

For info, when picking up the car yesterday, got told that they no longer supply the bottle of oil. I don't know if it was specifically this dealer or VW in whole.

Tried it mate, the dealers having none of it and what makes it worse the dealers in south hereford and im in the north east.

I bought it thru Autofinders, they sourced it for me and arranged for delivery from south hereford garages(about 4 hours away)

If it was a local VW garage i'd be down there every day till it got sorted but its different trying to get somewhere over the phone

Check for dings next to the fuel filler flap. Like this!!!

My dealer fixed it free of charge after me noticing it a week after delivery. It looks huge in the photo but when the car was brand new and all polished I couldn't see it.

Dentmaster guy told me he has fixed a few MK VI Golfs all with the same ding in that location. It marries up perfectly to the fuel filler flap!!
