Well that's just great!
« on: 31 October 2009, 16:56 »
As some of you may know, I took my car in for a new clutch - sweet. Got a really good price, at a reputable garage which has been in business for around 30 years. However, now my gearbox is pissing out oil all over the place. I don't suppose theres much I can do to fix it, other than take it back and demand it to be sorted is there?

Take it back to the garage, it's their problem. Also get a hire car and bill them.

I know, I just think that they are blatantly going to try and get out of it. I'm just not looking forward to the argument on monday.

You sure its gearbox oil (it smells REALLY fishy)?

Depends on where its leaking from to effect the clutch, it is unlikely unless its leaking through the input shaft.

As above, depends where it is leaking but yes it could damage the clutch.

Could well have been them if they have just ragged the driveshafts away from the box when taking it off (and buggered the shaft seals in the process) to get to the clutch. However, proving it is going to be an issue.

Why is proving it going to be an issue? My car went in for a new clutch, leak free and now it's pissing oil from the gearbox. To me that's all the proof I need.

Anyway, it's going back tomorow so I'll keep you updated.

Cheers for the replies.

Don't go in there looking for an argument, If the problem was there when they fitted the clutch, they would have told you, its not within their interest to let a car go down the road leaking oil, give them the benifit of the doubt, any garage with a reputation to uphold will want to sort the problem out with a minimum of fuss
