Pretty much what Darkgti said, we don't have a Shell garage over here. I get a 5p a litre fuel voucher everytime I do the shopping at Tesco though so I fill up with super instead.

I treat it to V power when I can though

I've ran 20 quids worth of Tesco 99 stuff through also now, same results as V power.

Worse MPG than 95 ron, performance.. I don't really think it's any better or worse overall... think the cold air affects it more!

But, many thanks to Sarah @ Awesome (much appreciated time and effort put in there!) I now know what map is on my car. It's a 95 ron map.

So what do you think guys/experts - stick to 95 ron fuel for increased MPG and identical performance? Especially interested to see if Nick from R-Tech replies

Something else I've noticed on 99 ron fuel is... the engine is a little gruffer/rougher sounding? I'm not convinced it's doing me any favours!

So, if I stick to 95 ron... which is the "best fuel" to use quality wise. Shell is cheap around here... good fuel? Texaco is also cheap, never tried it before. I've ran a lot of Asda fuel and Jet fuel in the Golf, Asda seeming to be smooth and economical. Impressed I was!

i`m no expert by any means but by the sounds of it your car is mapped to run 95 ron fuel.
when i had my car mapped i mentioned before hand that i had filled up with tesco blue stripe 99 ron stuff. once mapped i noticed one hell of a difference. however whenever i have been skint i have opted for the extra blue stripe 95 ron cack
i notice not as much pull and hesitation with the 95 ron stuff which makes me very unhappy and i dont even notice a MPG gain (not that i make a note of it) .
so, i always use 99ron or shell Vpower whenever possible and the difference for me is alot noticable. now the only problem i have is my blue stripe front tyres not being able to put the power to the road (especially when its wet).
i have been considering swapping the front tyres for the backs but i just cant be assed.
it would handle alot better too..

Quite literally: put the best fuel in and you will get the best performance and mpg that your map will allow.........simples!!!!!!!

Well I've ran a bit of Shell 95 ron stuff through and mpg seems a tad better and engine feels a bit smoother.
