MK1 GTI RESTORATION JOB
« on: 27 September 2004, 23:32 »
Hi
i'm currently restoring a mk1 gti 1.6 V reg, i'm after some info on the model, it's the one with the small back lights, the checked seats and 5 speed box.
Was this model fitted with the windscreen 'deflecters' and what wheels would have been fitted to car from new.
I am after some parts as well. 4 Branch manifold and performance exhaust, also a lowering kit and a original radio.
Not seen a V reg gti for about 10 years so not sure about what should be fitted to it.
Any help would be good.....

Thanks Mike

I cant help with any of the parts, but I would be interested to see a few pictures of before, during and after the restoration. Sounds like it could be quite a rare car once complete.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

No wind deflectors should be fitted.

Wheels should be either 5.5 x 13 steels or the optional alloys in the same size like on my car below

'74 Golf "Special"
'76 Golf
'76 Golf L
'76 Golf LS
'76 Golf GTi
'79 Golf GTi
'80 Golf GTi

Have to ask where did you get the mud flaps? Mine on my car are broken, need to replace? :)

Absolutely fantastic, beautiful. My first introduction to VW's was that car when it was only 7 years old, spitting image...........so good to see one this far down the line looking so original. How I wish I had never let mine go :(
