I like 5 doors as the doors on the 3 door are just far too big. Its hard to get in and out in parking spaces. Its one of the top reason i ruled out the scirocco as my own personal car as the doors are huge. If the doors were similar length to say a mk1 or mk2 golf then thats a different matter. The width of doors does not help either.

Gti Mark VI  -  I prefer the look of the 3-door to the 5-door but, as a family man with kids, can I consider the 3-door when only the 5-door can have rear seat belt warning facility and rear side airbags?
Got a Freelander 2 as well but I don't want the Golf to be put aside everytime we go out as a family.
Get a 5dr!!

You'll love it more!
I hated having to move seats to get people in back of my last a3!

I thought only the 3-door suited white but looks good on the 5-door, too

if u look properly the 3 door is slightly different to the 5 door in the design shape of the side rearend windows.
if you're a family man, 5 door is so much more practical.  because its a gti it doesnt really matter if its 3 or 5.  also it will be tricky getting a baby seat in if you had any babies.  another point is wider doors of the 3 door means it can be awkward when you're parked in a carpark say...
btw i have a 5 door because it was more practical for my needs.

makes sense  -  thnx

My lass just read this thread over my shoulder and said. 5 doors are for people with friends. 3 doors are for people with no friends or virtual  friends.

If you`ve got kids get a 5 door,i use my touran when karting the family around, i have taken the mrs and kids out in my 3dr but its not suitable for two adults and 3 young children.

I've opted for 5 doors for the reasons above. I find the front doors too big on the 3 door.

My garage is pretty narrow and i'm now sick after many years of edging 2 and 3 door cars in the garage and squeezing out with the door wedged on the garage wall [though covered in lurid pink carpet!].

Hang on, it may have something to do with my gut getting bigger too .....

+1.
Went for the 5 doors for exactly the same reasons. The Sciricco was really awkard to get out of from the back seats. GTI 3 door was a lot easier and I do look the look of it, but practicallity won in the end.
Tornado Red 5 door GTI, DSG, Winter Pack, Lux Pack, RCD510+dynaudio, Park Assist with Camera, Sunroof, Cruise, Mud Guards & FT indicator.
