a8s are the size of the f**king titanic. they are comfy but hardly what would be classed as a performance car, even with the v8.

the only way you will get an old car that is not needing work done; is if the previous owner has done it all themselves first.

What utter rubbish. 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and top speed of 155mph isn't bad. The same as a mk5 gti.
The 0-60 doesn't do the car justice, once on the move, 30mph+, it is extremely fast. Testing it, it did 30-70 in 6 seconds, which i bet is faster than any golf gti, probably faster than the R32.

True. But if you have the ability and the patience, then these cars are out there.
The A8's are so silly cheap now that buyers can easily budget for any extra work.
It depends if the buyer has the ability to fix these cars because they aren't easy to work on.
Out of interest have you actually driven an A8?

Having a cool old car thatis still on the road because you have kept it going also gives you satisfaction.
I see my car as more of a hobby,i like getting under the bonnet at weekends and searching for parts and writing daft questions on here asking whats wrong buts its a learning curve and i would be bored sh!tless otherwise.
My mate had a honda and spent 2500 getting someone else to put a vtech lump in it and then took all the credit for it.
What did he learn from that? how to open his chequebook?
Think it all boils down to whether you ve got the patience to get your hands dirty or spend lots of money.
Im on my 8 th one now and i take a bit of stick for it but at the end of the day no matter what car ive had ive always wanted another mk 2.

I'm always getting stick for pouring money into my car. Since I've owned it I've replaced loads of stuff, and had it in the garage more times than I would like. But as you said, it's a hobby.

you seem to think that going fast in a straight line makes it a performance car. it certainly does not. a mk5 golf would knock an a8 senseless the minute you introduce any kind of corner.

the cars are cheap because the running costs are high (insurance, fuel, maintenance.) I have driven an a6 but not an a8. I've been out in one a friend of mine has a couple of times (very rarely admittedly) but he hardly drives the thing due to the petrol it uses.

there is no denying it's a big pimpin car, but don't try to argue that it's something it's not.

if u aint handy with a spanner and have uber amounts of patience i wouldnt bother + i dont see it as a step backward being as i used to own a mk5 (i feel like a stuck record saying that) mk2 is a great car and much better for my needs!

For £5k I'd want the central locking to work properly and the sunroof rail fixed and 12 months MOT. I paid £750 for my car and it came with working central locking, working sunroof (not leaking ) 12months MOT and 6 months tax, can't argue there!
