A mk2 is something you buy becuase you really want a mk2, not because it's going to be a super reliable, economical, cheap runabout or whatever.

If you really want one because you have a passion for them then go for it. Don't end up spending 5k on some daft low miles stuck in grandads garage wonder though. Spend a couple of grand and keep some in the bank for the inevitable replacements/fixings!

At the end of the day mk2s are all at least what, 17 years old? Average miles they'll have 170k on the clock. Things will fail and need replacing. If you love the car and it's what you want it won't bother you (as it doesn't me, example, took mine out the other day and saw the oil light flashing at lower revs so instantly booked it in for a new pump and now it's sorted). If it isn't what you really want it'll irritate the hell out of you!

I would say if you don't love them, don't go there

With any make of car, there are good ones and there are bad ones. Its just that Audi produce more good ones than bad ones, where as French cars..........well, need I say more! :undecided:

i'd say he bought a proper old audi, not a ghey a8.

fast old cars have generally had a hard life, and it shows. once they are sorted in the end it's well worth it.

There's nothing 'ghey' about an A8. Luxury, performance, handling, build quality, reliability, mine has everything you could want for a mere three grand. Talking about gays, i thought you were the only gay in the village?

Not always. Some are actually very well looked after. Its just finding one.
I wasn't suggesting necessarily buying a performance Audi. There are plenty of good 80's,90's,100's,A3's,A4's,A6's. The list goes on and on.

Jules, get one - just don't spend all your budget on one and keep some of that for repairs   3-5k miles per year is not a lot and only time mine has let me down is because of a dodgy connection to the injection pump   not bad for over 200k miles

Just make sure you've got good service history with it and maybe take your uncle with you to view them if he knows about them.
