Can you not hammer a larger socket onto it?

If you can weld, you could tack a nut onto the top and undo it with a socket that way.

Neither would work, the head is a in a deep tight recess. However I found the key!

For future reference, a spare, deep 18/19MM socket and a huge hammer, or rounded bolt removers would work.

Never failed yet and deep sockets will reach em.

Does split the socket but obviously cheaper then new wheels!

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

Wouldn't work on these one with the the allows I have. Only about 3mm of clearance around the locker nut.

I've binned them now anyway, not wanting that hassle again!

Nope. Pretty set on an Octy VRS in red or black with a remap, a small drop and CH reps. Just gotta find the pennies and get my promotion first!

Go for it, apart from the CH reps, seen too many with them fitted tbh also think long and hard before lowering it as a daily the ride is firm / harsh now without taking anymore travel away.

If you're planning on lowering an Octavia then it's worth saving for some mid range coilovers. I've heard from a few Octavia owners that cheap coilovers have a list of common problems when fitting and bedding in. Anyone who has saved that little bit more for a mid range brand has had a flawless fitting and settling.

Having had an Alfa 156, I would avoid it. Spare parts are expensive and build quality is poor, electrics are dodgy (wipers failing when it rained due to poor design).
But the drive is great and the design is very pretty. I don't remember the driving position being bad, we had the nice sports seats with leg support.

I currently have a B5 Audi A4 Avant and the build quality alone is so much better than the Alfa (which was the same age).

If you get an A4 Avant TDI, get a towbar fitted and buy a trailer for taking the Golf to trackdays. Perfect.
