Standard Internals, What are they good for 1.8t
« on: 16 October 2009, 10:00 »
Hey guys,

Had a search didnt really come up with much. What are the standard internals good for on the 1.8t (t reg golf)

Can you use an ebc (electronic boots controller) on these cars? I have a HKS EVC 4 lying around from my old Mitsi GSR?

Ta

Dan.

300bhp is comfortable, any more than that and you're on thin ice.

You might get 11psi from a mbc before the ecu chucks the car into limp mode. Thats enough for around 170bhp but it's really not the way to tune these cars, with the ecu constantly adjusting the fuelling for a load that it isn't requesting. If you're set on doing it, get a wideband so you can keep an eye on the afr.. but you should probably just put that money towards a proper remap and do it properly for a reliable 18-ish  psi :afro:

Thanks for the reply bud, Well my mate owns a tuning company who specialise in Emange piggy back ECU's, can these be run on the golfs? You can adjust the fueling / boost etc with these systems and I trust his tuning skills.

I havnt actually got the golf yet, just researching, will  the standard intercooler work enough at 18psi?  or will the car benefit more from a upgrade and exhaust system.

if you mate works for a tuning comany couldnt he tell you all this?
the standard intercooler is fine for 18psi, but will deffo benifit from a turbo back exhaust system!

i was under the impresion that after about 300bhp the piston/rings would be the first to let go, and that the rods would with stand 350+

is this true anyone know of anyone running above these claimed figures,

If i was chasing big bhp, i would of thought a metal h/g to lower comp and a set of forged pistons would be a good move,

Im not chasing big bhp just want some nice punch when i put my foot down. Having come down from a decent big bhp cars were id spent way to much money on and this being my family car for abit until my daughter is a little older then i can get back into something big powered again.
