undue car and attention

That's what I thought, but they would have to prove it which is difficult. Unless like I said above, you were driving like a t1t.

Can you give me a quick list of all the 'extras' I'd need to get it going? Shark fin, software updates, etc. Did you fit it yourself?

TIA

How can you tell what firmware version you have?

On some units you can hold down the setup button for about 10 seconds and it gives you a hidden menu that tells you about version info etc.  If you want to check if you have the latest version, the easiest thing to do is try putting in an SD card that is MORE than 2gb.  The latest FW is the only one that will accept anything greater than 2gb.

Other than that - the sticker on the back of the unit tells you its original version.

The required bits are the GPS Antena and the VW Code Card.  Optional extras are the V5 Map Disk, and the latest Firmware (probably required for the climate control to work), and a shot of a VagCom to get it coded to your MFD / steering controls.

Judging by this... fitting should take you about 10 mins - even if you don't know the first thing about car audio!

Excellent guide

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Version info

Version A:

the most obvious is the volume level when altered comes up in the middle of the screen and the back ground dims,  Also go into the Tones  settings and select balance and fade if you have 2 rows front to back left to right then this is version A

Version B:

The above volume indication is down the bottom of the screen and the screen doesn't dim any more you will also get a different balance screen which shows you a top view of a Golf GTI/R32 interior and you have a scroll feature

Version C:

As above posted stick a SD card in that is more than 2gb also in all of the screens goto EXTRAS at the bottom of the screen and in there will be an option to turn the screen off also in MAP settings there is an option for visual speed limitations this will show you the speed limit of the road your currently on.

Just to clarify, all these versions are just firmware updates, no hardware changes ?
