MK3 power........after 3500 Revs!!!!!

On a 16v yes, 8v should have power thoughout the rev band.

lol cheers for that Len, my previous car was a mpv and that was really slow, I guess my expectations of all things GTI were just too high.  loving the response after 4k revs though, it scoots right round to 6k easily.

I have decided to keep this car though, its not all bad and as they say, the grass isn't always greener......

I checked the air filter an hour ago, it's stock £5 jobbie and was clean, must have been done recently, also plugs are clean too. It's all too weird.

The car also cuts out when I first start it, I have to wait 60 secs before I set off, otherwise it cuts out at lights.  Not sure why this is.  If anyone has experienced this, please let me know how much more cash I need to spend     cheers indi.

av you checked the relays? mine played up and it was the fuel relay!!

That is not right, my 8V did not need 4k on the clocks before action, I would get it checked out.

Tips I have seen for this problem, I am having the same issue around 2900 - 3400 revs, are

check Dizzy cap, clean Throttle Body and change fuel filter.

Recently changed my Sparks, and although Fuel economy isnt fantastic, it improved a little.

Need to get mine sorted out aswell, so keep us informed on how you get on. I have other pressing issues unfortunately. Mainly, a leak in steering and problems with selecting gears.just minor ones..lol

Sure thing Rossy.  I have problems selecting gears too, but performance and engine sweetness is taking priority.  Will give the TB a clean this Saturday and also change the fuel filter - I must get a gsf loyalty card soon, I will be using it quite a bit me thinks!!!!

similar thing with mine but mines the 16v, been running groggy recently but getting 40 mpg on the cycle....

brand new ngk plugs.. brand new filter.. throttle body loosk clean, ( im assuming thats the thing at the end of the air intake pipe.. but havent taken it off..

rota arm and dizzy i havent changed yet or the leads..

needs an oil change too.. any suggestions..

Hi mate, in this 60 second warm up time, does the car idle at all? Can you start it using just the key (no throttle)?

If it doesn't idle when cold it may well be the throttle position sensor in the throttle body, check the wiring going into the throttle body, I had the same issue, 3 wires were split.
