Update HID's gone. HID highbeams
« on: 19 September 2009, 19:12 »
Hey all, I've got HID's in my projectors for low beams, now my high beams to sh!t all because the low beams stay on.

I know about the flashing and all, but if you briefly flash the low beams on then off, they do light up.

Is it still a stupid idea for a cheap eBay kit and for high-beam vision, although they wouldn't be in projectors... Unless I can fit my spare set of Hella twin projectors in place of the high....

Take your POS illegal HID headlights off and everyone might not hate you and ignore you for running lights that are probably dazzling other drivers.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Sorry for being ignorant, but I thought on Hella twins they are fine. I've driven past in other cars and no dazzle at all.

TBH I don't shine my highbeams at people anyway, so I didn't think being a bit safer would be a bit of a bonus.

It's passed it's MOT on the projectors.....

Is there no MOT requirement for headlights any more? I'm often being dazzled by people at night these days.
If high beams are supposed to be too bright for opposing traffic, the surely these HID kits and super bright bulbs are just as bad?

have you ever had the joy of soem comeing up behind you with HID'a after you have been driveing for a few hours at night.   the legal HID's are bad enough on a rough road,  as even on dip they have more light output than conventioanl full beam so they don't just dazzel you once, they keepof flashing you because of the sh!tty autoleveling.   the strap on ebay kits are worse  on some cars you can't tell if someones on dipped or full beam.

imo it all the wrong way round with HID anyway   it should only be fitted to driveing lamps or full beam  so it's only on when no other bugger is around you on the road then it dosent matter how bright it is, why the hell anyone needs THAT much light is beyond me  if if they NEED it to see they shouldn't be on the road IMO
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Well I did not realise they were illegal.

I also have mine pointed even lower then stock height.

I'll have to be putting an uprated loom + bulbs in then. Can't be having an illegal car.

Have been reading online and have found out they are illegal. The seller informed me they were 100% legal in projectors, I will be taking this up with him and am now popping out to buy some uprated halogen bulbs.

Thanks for informing me, getting stopped and fined is the least thing I want right now.
