Headunit..keeps resseting itself
« on: 14 September 2009, 22:09 »
Hi guys,

fitted my new cd player yesterday and when i start the car it all works fine and well i set it up etc etc but as soon as i turn the car off and take the key out the next time i put the key in a turn the power on, turn the cd player on and  go to listen to the cd player again all the settings have reset themselfs so have to set it up again like bass, treble, fade, what track were on etc!

my freind mentioned sniiping the red and yelolw cables of the cd player and swapping them over each other but duno if this is true?

any help please Euan

No.
What causes this is, whilst there is a standard for connecting headunits (ISO connector), manufacturers cannot agree which pin position should be the switched live and which should be the permanent live.

So, with some cars, it will all work perfectly out of the box. Other cars (VW's and Vauxhalls in particular) will need the perm and switched lives swapped around. You shouldn't need to cut the wires, as halfway along the loom the red and yellow wires should be naturally broken by means of a bullett connector.

You should just be able to pull these apart and join red to yellow and vice versa
