An MoT just checks to make sure that things work within prescribed parameters, and many don't even do that - I've seen way to many dodgy MoTs in my time - and if I had my way, MoT testing would be taken away from ALL businesses which either sell cars, or fix cars.  An MoT is only valid for the actual moment when the car was tested - in terms of being 'road legal'. :nerd:  The moment you drive away from the MoT test station is the moment that other motoring laws override the MoT. :smug:

And did the Police actually examine your Corsa headlamps?  And even if they did, and failed to nick you - that still don't make them 'legal'.  Just like if you go past a cop car at 90 mph on a motorway, and don't get done - that doesn't then mean that doing 90 on a motorway is now legal!

Search AutoExpress, and the Department for Transport (www.DfT.gov.uk) websites for further proof on just how illegal retro-fitting xenons are.

Is having fancy headlamps really that important if the legality is so in question?

In one of the earlier threads, there should be a direct link to the DfT article - which basically lays down the letter of the law.

I don't know what fines could be had, but points are highly likely - and big points too.

Firstly, by retro-fitting xenons, your car will then loose it's official EU 'Type Approval' - look for the 'e' number on the black sticker on the base of the passenger B pillar.

Secondly, it will also be in breach of the UKs 'Construction and Use Regulations Act' (CUR) - this is a prosecutable offence, and could actually lead not only to a hefty fine and points, but also the court could order the destruction of your car!

Finally, any car which does not comply with Type Approval will need specialist insurance.  And ANY car which does not comply with Construction and Use Regs will actually be uninsurable - so if you have a prang, an insurance assessor will just invalidate your insurance - so not only will you be liable for ALL costs from any accident, but you will then be also liable for prosecution for no insurance!

Seriously - don't do it.

Search the forum - this has been covered before. Yes the Monza II's are more difficult to refurb than 'painted' wheels like the 17" monzas and not all wheel refurb places can do them. They basically need to be turned on a special lathe to get rid of the scuffs/marks and impart the nice 'diamond-cut' finish on the face. They are then re-lacquered. There are quite a few wheel refurb agents that have a lot of experience of these wheels now - so ring round and look at the feedback of other forum members.

Alternatively, you can just buy new wheels from your local dealer for about £450 each. Glad to be of help.
