I read a guide on a track prepped car, i think it was in PPC a while back, he had a gauge in car with tyre valves that fed back the pressures of each tyre.. some needed to run as much as 5psi extra on 1 wheel when cold compared to others to get a stable pressure all round when hot.. He said it was the best 200 quid he'd spent..

might cost a bit initially but cheaper than new tyres every trackday..

Looks like you had a good day by all accounts.

I usually run my tyres in the 35 to 45 psi range on trackdays (when hot) but my car is a bit heavier than yours.

Did you get the alignment re-done when you had the shocks changed recently?

There are at least 2 types of compound on the R888's, you haven't got the soft sprint ones on by mistake have you?

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

Yeah the day was awesome, back of the circuit hopping over the rumble strips at speed was soooo much fun. Felt like a touring car driver!

I have to confess to not having the alignment re done after changing the shocks but a bit of toe in or toe out would have had equal wear on the fronts I wuold have thought. The other side wore exactly as I would have expected. All 4 tyres are GG's as well.

Looks like higher pressures are indeed the way forward.

I'm going to mate, but between getting the shocks fitted and the car MOT'd I had no time to get the aligment done before the trackday. Will be getting new camber bolts and full front suspension alignment before the next trackday.

Ahem, well at least that solves the mystery of how Nick *possibly* used up quite so much of that tyre on one day.....
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Yeah it probably didn't help but the other 2 Golfs suffered pretty much the same as me.

Who would have thought dodgy maintenance was so common among Golf2 track car owners?
