Mk3s are a joy to lay cabels in. The plastic trim along the door frame pops up with loads of room (I've got 3 50mm2 cables running down mine). There's a grommit that side of the engine bay as well.
As your running 8awg keep the power as short as possible. The under seat idea is ideal.
