ABD actually is the worst of the worst, it's the crappest 1.4 mk3 engine available. mine sucks bad, i'd swap it for the ABU 1.6 in a years time if i were you.. straight swap iirc

What engine is the ABU? Is that a single point injection 1.6 engine? My 1.6 is an AEE but is multi point injection

believe it's a single point 1.6 which was around at the same time as the ABD, so early MK3s

pretty much every ABD part fits the ABU

i wouldn't touch any single point injection engine from previous experience.

the dual injections give it a bit more life in terms of responsiveness and they seem to rev a bit happier, but there still as slow

and i wouldn't bother with the 1.6, as the performance is very often undistinguishable to a 1.4.

The one to get, and keep the insurance down a bit while adding performance that you should be able to add to is the 1.6 16V, but this are pretty rare, and apparently are liable to break down

My 1.6 Golf is fairly quick for what it is! I kept with a 110bhp Rover 216 coupe from 0-100mph

I just see no point in modifying a car with such a small engine unless its something like a starlet turbo or a punto gt etc.. something forced induction to start with..

I even think im wrong for thinking of putting the charger on my golf because its a 8v gti.. im only going to see 180 brake max i reckon and thats after ploughing the best part of a 700 quid into the engine.. so thats 700 quid for 70 brake.. especially when i have a 16v sitting there in the garage...
