Rubbish audio at the front?
« on: 13 August 2009, 17:04 »
Hey everyone

Just bought a GOLF GTI Mk5
There seems to be very little audio at the front, most of it, especially the bass / mid range, is coming from the back.

I expect either the speakers have blown or a fuse is out.
Has anyone else had problems?
Anyone got any suggestions on how I can find the root cause of the issue (and no I checked my fader haha)

Thanks!!!
Chris

Check there not faded to the rear.

Do you get any sound from the front at all.

Try switching the speaker outputs on the HU.

Hey B

I checked fader and its fine.
I put it all to the front and only heard high range sounds, so i suspect only the smaller speakers are working.  The big front ones gave no sound what so ever.

Do you think the previous owner may have damaged them (or the cones) or could it be fuse related or something?
Any ideas?

Thanks

You don't fuse speakers, so if it was a fuse I wouldn't of thought anything would work.

Silly question. Have you checked they're plugged in?

The tweets are working so the output channel of the hu is working. It'll be a case of chasing the wire to see if there is a break.

This is how you get to the back of the stereo....

HERE

just be careful, as it can be quite delicate!

That looks pretty intense haha.
I remember removing the stereo from my old fiesta... took 10seconds!

Anyone actually done that before? How hard / easy is it?

Right... this is a bit shady.
I was out in my golf poking around at the top air vent seeing how best I could lift it off (i read the guide but just seeing what i coudl do without getting my tools out) and my mate came over asking what was going on

i told him the situation and faded the audio to the front / back and left / right sides to show him what was going on.... it all did as before with the front speakers sounding very tinny with little bass.

i then restored 50/50 balance etc and they started working!!! HOW ODD!?!
I checked the fader / balance 3/4 times before even posting on here... what happened?!
