One thing I think we all agree on on here is that we've all bought an awesome car. Life would be pretty boring if we all had identical ones so the odd idfference here and there makes for some interesting discussion.

I agree with you in a way, but not looking like a GTI is almost a positive point for me. I live in a relatively poor part of France and GTIs tend to attract Barryboys (known as Jackies in French, lol) around here. I may even debadge the rear just to tone things down a bit, depending on how things go.

I'm in the same boat and would rather go for a discrete look as far as possible.  Has anyone debadged yet?  Can it be done at both ends , I assume the rear is just stuck on but how about the front badge?  Any advice for how to best to remove the stuck on badge (no knife or screwdriver here).  Thank you.

hmm for the ultimate discreet look i think you'd have to change the red piping on the grill as well

Interesting, anyone have any ideas how best to remove the red piping on the grill?

My brother-in-law commented that the rid piping on the grill was the only flash part of an otherwise nicely understated car. I still like it, though, and wouldn't change, but I guess if I did want to remove it, I would try some simple black electrical tape first and then maybe just spray paint them out once I was sure. There are black chrome VW grill badges on eBay, so I imagine the same process could be applied to the piping.

I must admit I can see the point of the Interlagos wheels but I'm seriously struggling to see why anyone would want to black out the red piping.

Why would you want to debadge?  The whole point of owning a Golf is status surely!!!

I'm not into bling so I'd rather go an understated look, especially with the undersirebales (AKA Jackies) around and not into getting any extra attention.  In the 80's, a mate had an old Mk2 RS2000 and it looked like a dog (but went like stink), he didn't even bother locking it at times and never had any breakins.  Obvoiusly, I'll be looking after my car (keeping it clean, etc...) but I'm just worried about getting any unexpected visitors wishing to have a test drive, if you know what I mean.
