Smoking!
« on: 30 July 2009, 19:01 »

A bit concerned, I had a new head fitted on my car with new valve stem seals new guides etc, Its is a ported and polished head.
It still smokes at startup I cant explain. I hope that someone can shed some light on this.
It only smokes at startup and then its gone or not obvious after that

Also I stopped using the car for about a week and now get strong fume like smell in the cabin.

Any help pointing out what is causing this would be appreciated!

A strong smell could be a blocked breather hose or the block on top the cam cover.

Reference the smoking, sounds like oil is leaking down into the bores which suggest a valve guide or seal problem or could be a ring issue.

Might be a good idea to carry out a compression test as your next move.

Thanks sounds like a good idea, what compression should the golf have on a 2L 8v GTI.

What colour is the smoke? If it's white, the head gasket could be the problem, maybe they stupidly used the old one.
Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge", auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....
