There are kits out there but they are a bit expensive.
Demon Tweeks do em for a bout a grand with the carbs. This kit includes and ECU to control the timing/firing plus sensors etc.
You will need some sort of control unit.

but i could run a 2.0 16v on twin carbs without a gti fuel tank etc?

Dont thing the actual tank matters, but you'll need the higher pressure pump for twin carbs.
It will depend on the fittings. Injection systems have a return system, dont think you'll need that with carbs.
