Sounds like the clutch is slipping., mate make sure the clutch is fully engaged before you put the pedal to the metal.

na the clutch is fine. dont worry im not a complete noob when it comes to cars.

clutch has plenty of life left and the revs dont go up. im just a bit stumped at what it could be.

so do the revs come up faster than the car moves for a split second then catch, or is it just you put your foot down and the engine doesnt pick up at all for a split second?

right sounds like the old digilag problem there, which is usually the result of the engine not being setup properly. do you know the engine code?

Yeah ive got the same problem. for example say im sitting cruising in low revs then quickly put my foot to the floor theres a wee jolt and a split second later its away and running fine. only appears to happen for under a second, its like a sudden hesitation then its fine, duno wot it is, anyone??

there is a sticker in the boot somewhere, or it might be printed on a sticker on the top of the timing belt cover. also should be on the inside cover of the service book. could be 2e, AGG or ADY or something similar. the numbers after this are the specific block number, its only the 1st 2/3 letters/numbers we need :)
