Water Leak
« on: 25 July 2009, 19:54 »
Hi all!

I was wondering if someone could help me. I've discovered a leak where one of the pipes connects to a joint. Sorry I can't be more specific, I've only just got the car so I'm incredibly new to this.

I've got some pictures of where the leaks is.

Please help? I don't know what the part is called sorry

Water outlet, that is not the water pump which is a lot lower, you can get a new o-ring from VW.

It's not an o-ring job though, right?

It's leaking from the joint, not where the pipes are tightened  :undecided:

Where it bolts to the head is an o-ring.

I've just replaced this on my mk3. Take the car to VW or GSF and show them the part. It's only a water joint. It's not that expensive from main dealer. The O ring is built into the joint. Hope this helps

Just for info you can get the o-ring on its own if needed.

go gsf and ask for cylinder head front water outlet.

iirc its about 7 pounds or something and takes 2 minutes to swap over.

Thank you all!

So it this safe to drive around? It's not spraying out, it hisses like a quiet steam engine idle

Also, what's the safe period of time to wait until you can open the water reservoir to check the water level?

Thanks!!!
