MK3 Changing door number
« on: 25 July 2009, 12:53 »
Ok i've seen pictures of ventos turned into coupes, and the odd jetta.

I'd really like to do a swap in a similar vein to a mk3 estate, when i can find a car suitable.

I've got a pair of doors from a 3 door, do i need to get the pillars as well. also is the wheelbase the same on a 3 door as a 5 door estate?

I know it wont be easy, but done the odd roof chop on mk2 transit and suicide doors so shouldn't be too hard, more to point has anybody done it?

It is a lot of work, on a Jetta or Vento they weld in complete side assemblies.

Hence why was wondering if they are the same wheel base, i could get tempted in taking short cut and making a van, but would rather 3 door estate.

Dont worry wasn't expecting it to be easy.

A mk3 estate is the same floorpan as a Vento which is the same wheelbase as all other mk3's Golfs.

As I said in my earlier post they weld in complete new side body pressings.

Also I am not sure how that would fit with the roof.

thats cheating! doors are a little short.
but probably would be only way to go. I'm not against it, just would be nice if possible to do other way.
out of intrest anyone on here done suicide doors?
