Thanks for all your efforts in discussing my £8000 budget for a MK2

No joy so the search is on hold - will continue to watch the ads but I had thought I would flush out someone with a car

Keep enjoying the cars

£8000 is a very nice amount for a mk2. I hope you find the one you're looking for!

It does intrigue me that £8000 does not attract any serious cars

Mind you if you have a mint 16v would you read this anyway + then would you sell

I have another car that I would never sell unless the offer was really stupid as I know that I will never ( well almost never) find another car with the same history and condition

What would make someone sell?

Thats another thread that I don't really want to start

I was looking on pistonheads before, and there are some NICE 16valvers. Theres one that I'm interested in that has been owned by one family since birth! Pics to prove it too.

I think I may have found your MK2, maybe not the colour you want - BUT it looks GREAT!

By the way, I'll take the other £4250 as a finders fee

As I said in my original post on this subject, I think that your going to struggle to find what you want, most of the mint O/Gs will have been filtered through to the true enthusiasts, probably a few years ago,
and would still need some sort of cosmetic work to bring them up to scratch, so why pay a premium. By hook or by crook, most parts ARE still available, go for something that has a mint rust free body, and a "as good as it gets interior" pay 4/5k for that car, and the balance, bringing up to concours, and ready for next season...

Possibly the ideal compromise - thankfully I can see that red is not green and 8 valvers are not 16 valvers so I may stand a chance of buying Mk2 big bumper 3 door Oak Green 16v

Has been an interesting thread

One day!

Thanks for the offer but I am happy to pay a top price for the car that I want

Oak Green Mk2 Big Bumper 3 Door 16v GTI - low miles, good history, MOTs

Thanks to the guys who ahve offered various cars but I am happy to wait for the right car

If three months pass I might look at a restoration project . Not sure who would do that . Is that a new thread?
