MOT failure!!
« on: 24 August 2004, 15:17 »
just put 16v in for its mot at 2pm, and it has failed but not on what i expected it to!!

n/s headlamp giving no image (good job i have a spare as 'condensation' has built up in the other one!!)

n/s + o/s rear flexible brake hose has excess corrosion to the ferrels (will let them do it as i hate brakes!!)

excess smoke at idle (been advised to flush the engine and change oil and filter, and bung some 'stop smoke' in to get it to pass) hmmm... i really must get them stem seals done sometime!!! lol

and thats it!!!!!!

so mot cost me ?35, headlamp cost =?0, oil and filter will cost me ?10, and then what ever they charge me for 2 flexi hoses and fitting/bleeding... est ?100??

not bad for a 15 year old car!!!

so obviously the windscreen (which has a stone chip, is ok)
and the front suspension top mounts are also ok!! ;D

re test tomorrow (after garage have done brake pipes 1st).

i got up early today and changed the headlamp, discovered why it had condensated up!!, the fookin lense fell out as i was removing the unit!!, so ill clean up and bond back on then another spare i have!!.

as for the 'smoke at idle' problem, i got some engine flush on sat and gave it 20mins with that in, then dropped the oil. i changed the filter and put some semi synthetic oil in, so i took the old girl for a run then left it idling, still fookin smokey!! probably worse than it was before!!, so i reckon ive dislodged loads of crude by flushing that was prob keeping some oil out from wher eit shouldnt have been!! >:(.

so this morning i got some of this wynns stop smoke oil treatment, it looks like fookin hair gel in a bottle man, anyway took it for a run, put this stuff in and razzed it round the block and hey presto it seems to have stopped it?? so hopefully after mr mot man has done me brakes and strikes her up for emissions it wont smoke!! i know this is only a short term fix before people start having a go!!, stem seals to be done shortly!!!!! i have had the stem seals for ages, just gotta get the air kit from machine mart and borrow a compressor oh yeah, and the all important thing 'spare time'!!!
