immobiliser?

Hi all, ive got a 1999 v reg AGU engined mk2, i know its a mk2 but the problem is with the mk4 part of it. its a 1.8t and i have had it running previously but went to turn it on yesterday after reconnecting all the wiring and clocks. it runs for around 3 seconds then it just dies again.on the clock display the orange car with the key of flashing on and off.what could be causing this? i had some welding done the other week but i disconnected the ECU so that shouldnt be a problem? help appreciated.oh ive tried the lock and unlock button but the batterys have died  in the fob i think so theyre not working

thats the immobiliser... my AGU mk4 did that few times i use juts take key out put back in and its fine.. oh and flipping the key around and using the other side sometimes helped too  wierd i know but it worked

when i did my engine swap the same thing happened.  apparently it can happen sometimes if the ecu is left unpowered for a set amount of time, I contacted ARD on ukmivs and i sent him my keys, clocks and ecu and he recoded them all for me and i havent had any further probs.

yes the battery was disconnected fully but the ecu was lef on for around 5secs before welding stopped and it was removed.so its nothng to do to with having duff batteries in the remote key then?

so the ecu was plugged in when weding?

for around 5seconds and one short weld.the battery was fully removed though.how much was the whole getting everything re coded cost?

doesnt matter about the battery being off you needed to unplug the ecu as they are connected to earth so as soon as you weld on the body it can spike through the earth wire into the ecu, forgotten the price possibly £40

ecu was unplugged all the time,but oh well ill get it coded again.thanks for that!
