1.4 to 1.6 16v - (can a 1.4 be rebuilt?)

Found a 1.6 16v for sale locally, what parts would need changing to do the swap?
Gearbox?Radiator?ECU?Throttle body? etc..

tbh i wouldn't bother just swapping up one engine size, i'd start saving for a 20vt conversion if i was you

i've no idea what you'd need i guess the box, and loom would be pretty much the same though

I thought the same.  for the tim, effort and cash involved, I wouldn't see the point.  It isn't going to be that much faster anyway.  Save your pennies toward a 1.8T

why not buy it, transfer your bits over and then sell yours - far easier than swapping everything around

just be careful as to what gearbox is in it - they tend to be a bit choclatey

Reason for it is insurance wont even give me a quote on a 1.8T or anything larger.

And the 1.4 piston rings are gone thats in it atm.
Ive been told (by ukmk4 forum) you CANNOT replace them on a 1.4 as the aluminium block warps if you loosen the crank OR the bearing cap bolts.
If you even loosen them then the bearing clearence will be out and can cause serious damage. Am i right in saying the bearing cap bolts are those which hold the piston to the crank?

This sounds like the stupidest engine design ever!
I've had two good quotes off engine rebuild companys on the engine, so i was planning on that but now im told you cannot rebuild them or even replace piston rings

Ford Zetec SE 1.4 and 1.6 is the same design, just designed to do 100k and then be thrown away, crazy.

Called several engine rebuild company and took the printout with warning to a couple, all said its nothing to worry about and only something VW use to make people spend £2000+ with them for a new engine  on every 1.4 pretty much, as they will go almost always go at some point (piston rings, valves, usual probs)

One of them had a 1.4 16v mk4 same engine code as mine they had jst rebuilt in a car running while was there. Also comes with a couple years guarantee

Try getting them to quote when you utter the words 'I changed the engine'...

Much easier to just buy a new car
