Reason for it is insurance wont even give me a quote on a 1.8T or anything larger.
And the 1.4 piston rings are gone thats in it atm.
Ive been told (by ukmk4 forum) you CANNOT replace them on a 1.4 as the aluminium block warps if you loosen the crank OR the bearing cap bolts.
If you even loosen them then the bearing clearence will be out and can cause serious damage. Am i right in saying the bearing cap bolts are those which hold the piston to the crank?

This sounds like the stupidest engine design ever!
I've had two good quotes off engine rebuild companys on the engine, so i was planning on that but now im told you cannot rebuild them or even replace piston rings
