I have no first hand experience with these but I know some of the eBay chips on offer create their power gain by tricking the ecu into over fueling!

This obviously isn't all too good for the car or your mpg!

Pete

thats what those resistor botches are for, just make the air temp sensor lie so the ecu adds a b it more fuel
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Learn to live with it or buy another MK3 16v/VR or engine swap.
Or just cam it and mod it for your own satisfaction and stuff all the 8v haters
8v isnt really that bad just a let down if you have ever had an 8v MK2 (More Weight same power)
MK4 1.8t in std trim is ghey as well but very easily tunable to be a monster, VW went of the boil for the 3 and 4 they looked good but
performance was underwhelming except for VR types.
Just Be happy its a VW the best of the Euro box range

is it worth it on a 16v?

YES!

Check out RTech remaps!

important word there was R-Tech. A reputable mapping company. Not just a cheapo run of the mill chip of ebay. ;)

I was kinda responding in my own way to Mikesters signature which quotes a PM I sent responding to his. Because of the swear filter on here it spells it as "twit"
