MPG Reading on dash
« on: 05 June 2009, 20:33 »
I've noticed the MPG figures flickers up and down....

Is there a reason for this?

My wife's '58 A3 cabriolet has done this since new so I think this mY have an issue as well.

are you looking the currunt mpg figure? if so this will change all the time your driving, you want to view the average mpg, this gives a more relistic figure, it will go up and down though as your driving.

thats normal mate.. there are 2 readings tho .. one gives you average milege and the other i think gives overall mpg ..which changes all the time through throttle response..

the one you want to look at has a circle symbol with a line going through it

if i had pics id be able to explain better so ill take some tomoz morning if you like

once your on the mpg that changes quite drastically press the down button once on the stalk an it will take u to the actual mpg which will say like 34.6 instead of 137 which is more realistic lol also has a circle on the left hand side with a line through it. If u flick trough your car manual for the digital display it will tell u them all. how long u have been drivin, the miles covered in this time, average speed, average miles and the actual miles per gallon for that journey :D

I have a bit of a query about that as well. On the mpg with the circle with the line through it averages 19-40mpg- fine. The other mpg figure however shows crazy readings all the time, literally from 7mpg to 200mpg back and forth- is this normal????

Yep.  That's 'real-time' MPG.  It will change with each & every throttle adjustment.  The useful figure is the average MPG figure.

Well some people like to know the average, it's the only way they're going to know what they are getting.
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.
