Hi there,
My girlfriends car done this too, it was intermittent, but usually between the revs you mention, chucked it onto vag com and it indicated a faulty lamba sensor, when we changed it, it cured the prob.

maby your having the same issue..

good luck
Thomas

Wont be the maf as 16v's dont have one, they have a map senser which is actually part of the ecu.

I'd start by getting the car checked for any fault codes and as mentioned in other threads those relays can be a cause of these issues aswell and wont do any harm to change em.

quick test for lambda, simply unplug it! if problem is solved you need a new one. if you disconnect it it reverts to a base map.  other thing it could be is ecu temp sensor, they can fail but still return values within a range the ecu expects, so no fault is flagged.  its the 2 pin white one on side of head, always go vag for these :)

I had the same problem with mine, got told all sorts of things it could have been (dizzy cap, fuel injectors, ecu/fuel relay) needless to say all got changed but still had the problem.

Have recently found out it was the air flow meter, changed that and the car has been running like a dream.

Try taking off the air flow meter plug and try to drive it !!

befor i changed the plug's leads ect can anyone help thanks .

So this problem has occurred since you changed the plug leads, yeah?

Swap 'em out for the old ones first, or a known-good set and then start pulling other things to pieces.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
