When I first got in contact with Designa Dubs I spoke to a guy called Paul there. He was the most helpful guy in the world and the main reason I chose them to carry out my conversion. Unfortunally he parted company with Designa Dubs a couple of week before I managed to take my car down to them which kind of threw a spanner in the works regarding what Paul and myself had talked about for ages on the phone. Basically my exact requirements regarding my conversion.
Anyway, after the massive thread regarding the quality of Designa Dubs' work on ClubGTi this last week Paul showed up? on the forum. I got in contact with him and gave him a phone call. This morning I was up at 6.45am (yawn) and was on my way down to his place in Basingstoke for him to have a look at their 2nd attempt at my conversion.
Paul set about swapping over as many of the water, vacume and breather hoses as he could to 'samco' style blue sillicone hoses. Many of the hoses on my car were split or about to split and therefore I would loose performance because of it. He also had a fiddle with my car adjusting the boost control until it ran a sensible pressure level (15psi). The car should now develop around 220bhp. It certainly feels a hell of a lot quicker than before, although the boost pressure does take a bit longer to come on song, but once it does?
Here's a picture of the engine now. He also removed and insulated all the odd peices of loom that weren't required for my conversion, but left dangling around the engine. The air filter is his, we just put it on for the picture?
lots of cleaning and polishing planned for the next few weeks.
