Hi Guys, thought it about time I registered as I've been lurking on the site for a while!

Info:
05 Silver 3 Door Gti
Manual
Revo Stage 1

I have a slight niggle with my car that I was hopeing someone could help me with.  When I'm waiting at a junction with a slope, holding the car on the clutch, as I release the clutch and pull away I can hear a whining noise coming from the engine bay.  It only last for a couple of seconds and only seems to happen on a slope.  The only other time I have heard the same noise was when I was stuck in heavy start\stop traffic on the motorway with los of clutch use.  Any help would be most appreciated.

You realise that knackers your clutch out a helluva lot faster?

Does your clutch slip at all?

Welcome golfpj.

Before I saw stealth's post I was thinking clutch whine/slip too.

Best way to test if the clutch is okay or not is to put it into 4th or better 5th gear and press the accellerator pedal to the metal  from around 1800rpm(where safe). If the engine revs surge upwards faster than the car accellerates and then level off or drop down, then you may have a clutch that is slipping and in need of replacing. :nerd:

I just noticed this with the hire car I have . When I put my foot right down the engine seems to rev quite high before it goes anywhere. almost like a slight pause whilst it engages in gear. Is this the type of thing your talking about Hurdy??? i wasnt too sure if it was just a characteristic of the dsg or not.

Firstly, "welcome" :)

Secondly, I'd be looking at clutch slip too.

It might be a characteristic of DSG, but the OP states manual......

But then again, WTF do I know

Hi guys

I don't tend to hold the car on the clutch but in some instances where its a quick stop\go junction then I might hold it on the clutch for a second or two and then pull away, that's when I get the horrible whine from the engine bay.  It actually happend again today but on a level surface while I was doing a 3 point turn!  I'll try the 4th\5th gear test, as Hurdy suggested, but hopefully it's not the clutch as that and the dual mass flywheel were replaced under warrany just over a year ago!  Does anybody feel quite a bit of vibration through their clutch pedal?  It almost feels as if the exhaust downpipe is touching a part of the clutch linkage and causing a vibration, I compared it with my wifes 5 year old astra but that is vibration free (must add the rest of the astra is crap compared to the Golf).
