As above. The golf failed on no effort at the handbrake. So, new mk3 calipers are in the pipeline however, I don't know what cables to get to make them work.

Anyone?

Yeah, they should be fine - but you'll need to flip the callipers upside down and flip each side round, left on right, right on left.

But to bleed them, you need to remove them, chock the calliper with a piston winder and make sure the bleed nipple is pointing up. If you chock it with wood - remember that pumping the brakes is going to bite into the wood and it will be a b!tch to remove.

no you dont, you only use the ones for your car. if its a post 87 you use post 87 cables, if its pre87 you use pre-87 cables. as ben says if you want to fit post 87 calipers to a pre87 car you need to mount them upside down. reason for this is post 87 the handbrake lever on the caliper was moved, and the handbrake lever design changed.
you cant just swap the cables as they end up way too long or way too short, as the lever itself is very different.
