When you replace it don't forget to do the clips on either end. I did and broke the new one in 3 days!

If i do have one there's no guarantee it's any better than yours though! Now you know it's definitely that, give Headington Autoparts (got number saved on phone 01865 750111) or Express Factors a call, they're normally pretty helpful and the cheapest i've found around Oxford. If you can find it for a couple of quid then i'd do that tbh.

If i do find one and it's good you can have it, it's not exactly valuable

Oh and i'm at Brookes, unfortunately!

Nice one, Thanks for the info.

Don't suppose you're doing a motorsport course at brookes by any chance?

Phoned around a few of the motor factors with no joy, so I've ordered one from GSF that should be here tommorow. Although the rod is cracked it still seems to be holding its place, so fingers crossed it solves my issues :)

Well thanks to Ben I can now get into 5th gear, it's not very easy so I think I'll adjust the gear linkage when I get home to Cambridge.

Nice one :) Excellent forum you guys have got here

I have a problem with 5th also, all my gears were nice and smooth before it went in to have a new down pipe fitted, now its awkward and sometimes takes a few goes to get in...  I should have taken it back at the time, but i've kinda left it too long now.

I havent even looked at it yet, but just read this thread and thought i'd mention it, I would assume they moved something or even broke this part while doing the downpipe.   does that sound likely ?

Thanks

It's possible, due to the nature of the engine and gearbox layout, it's so easy to just have a quick look to see if that rod is knackered.
And considering it's only 90p for a new one, and it only takes about 15 seconds, it's nice quick fix :)
