leaking!!
« on: 15 May 2009, 17:34 »
After the glorious weather today i got in my car after work and noticed a puddle of water in the passenger
side footwell, not massive just a bit of water. there seemed to be water collecting under a cover near the tray!

just wondering if this was common on the mk2's??

Thanks

G

yes there is a mesh grill under the scuttle tray on the passenger side of the engine bay, does the scuttle tray cover it properly? or is it cracked?

Mine used to do this.
Either the scuttle panel leaks and water drops directly into the fan like mine was doing, or it falls on the bulkhead and just drips into the fan housing through the base of the grill.
To fix the leak from scuttle panel its either new scuttle panel that doesnt leak, or bodge it with plenty of silicone.
To fix the leak from the base of the mesh grill then you have to remove the mesh, clean up the area well, then using silicone seal the mesh grille to the bulkhead.

Doesn't sound common at all - last time I saw a MK2 with water in the footwell, it was catastrophic chassis and floorpan damage.

I've have the car immediately scrapped if I were you.

Take the scuttle panel off and clean the drain holes in the corners, common fault on lots of cars, drain hole blocks and water comes in though the heaters, had this on my old mk2, i found out the hard way that they were drains after i cleaned the leaves then filled with silicon, oops. aslo had the same problem on a focus and have heard about it on other cars!
The drain hole is normally full of leaves and stuff like that.
Hope this helps!
