The clocks you have are rare Motometer ones, most if not all mk3's comes with TRW or VDO dashes.

16v goes up to 160mph

8v goes up to 140mph

and redline markings differ on 16v to 8v.

Well I'm certain it's not been clocked iv'e got loads of history and MOT's, but I've heard you can have clock's adjusted so maybe someone's swapped them or maybe for some reason they just came as standard from the factory???? I'm confused and would like to know whether their original or not how could I find out?

I would suspect the orignal clocks at some point failed and were replaced with a s/h set.

Mk3 clocks are failure prone (the lcd's go blank!) but i wouldnt worry if your history tallies as its easy to ammend the mileage (and not uncommon!)
I would guess there non original (and vagcat says the 16v has 160mph dials too)

Recently mine were replaced, there is a tag with a date on the back of the clocks. Try and find out if that remotely matches up with the age of your car.
