exhaust query
« on: 13 May 2009, 12:21 »
right. Friday I shall be popping round a friends house with a gti like mine, but he has a twin exit exhaust that he wants to get rid off (too loud for him) so I told him I would give him my standard one and he gave me his s/s one, so he agreed. Now, he took the car to the garage and they said the exhaust had a hole in the bracketnear the backbox. Thats what he thinks they said, he said he is not very technical hence he aint sure.
Now, what i want to know is, with exhaust paste, can I cover up a hole the size of a thumb nail for example, ive not seen the hole so i dont know how big it is until friday, but i have to give him an awnser the same day if i do want to swap or not, so my question is, with exhaust paste, can I cover up a hole the size of a thumb nail for example.

Long shot but that hole might be factory, some have small holes in them for the water to drain out, if not then yes exhaust paste should be ok or maybe try and get it welded.

Not going to be great.  Better off getting it welded. Wouldn't cost too much.

Its not a stainless steel backbox then! Must be some cheap tat then.
I would shop around ebay etc and find an SS one.
