im looking at changeing my HU aswell, just sold the MFD2, was looking at going down the aftermarket double din route, but im worried about my car getting broken into, as they are more attractive to thief's and have had a few mates with there's taken recently.

I think the VW units are less attractive to theif's...but they are actually more expensive then aftermarket HU's.

Hurdy has a brilliant front cover which will resolve you worries about people breaking into your car. Cant find a picture of it, Im sure he will post it up when he sees this. Its a blank cover which looks like a standard VW HU that covers your nice new HU.

I have another question (hopefully it adds to the thread, rather than hijack it!), as I have sat nav with my MFD2, will any aftermarket double din unit with sat nav work seamlessly with the VAG-COM and connections?

The HU itself has its own inbult GPS and will work, mine is single din so Im not really in the best position to answer weather or not any double din will fit as Im not sure what the connections are on the back. The single din units require a CANBUS adaptor to obtain all the functions (i.e auto dimming, speed sensor volume control etc) but is not required to get it to work (as I dont have it as its a total ripoff). At a guess Id imagine the double din would be similar ? Anyone ?

Thanks anyway AlanD. I'm scouring the Audio sections and other boards - I'm very much a noob in the car audio department!
